For a history assignment we had to find a political cartoon about conferderation. Upon looking I found the comic to the left. The questions that we had to answer about our cartoon are:

What are the underlying messages of this cartoon?

The underlying message of this cartoon is that the people being crushed by the steam roller are political members of Nova Scotia. Why that is so is because they joined confederation, then they wanted out. Why John A. Macdonald is on the top is because he didn’t care what they thought or said, he just wanted them to be a part of it.

Does the artist have a favourable or non-favourable opinion of confederation?

I think that the author has a non-favourable opinion of confederation. Why that is so is because the author drew it in such a violent way, because from their perspective, the author thought John A. Macdonald was forcing them and controling them to stay in confederation.

Well there you have it. A political cartoon, with the meaning told by me. As always, thanks for reading!

History

February 23, 2012

For history we had to complete a few activities. One of those activities was to write on our blogs…

On your blogs, reflect on the interactive learning activities that you completed, as well as the population data of Canada. Create a blog entry where you complete the following prompts:
I remembered that …

Canada Activity

I remembered that Canada became a country in 1867. I also remembered that in 1999, Northwest Territories divided into two, creating a new territory called “Nunavut.”

Recognizing Bias

I remembered that bias is something that is unfair or unjust.

I noticed that…

Canada Activity

I noticed that in 1870, almost 90% of Canada was covered by The North-West Territoies.

Recognizing Bias

I noticed that in newspaper, bias can easily be hidden, and can be found in almost every newspaper.
I was unaware of …

Canada Activity

I was unaware of the fact that Alberta and Saskatchewan became provinces in the year 1905.

Recognizing Bias

I was unaware of the fact that a sentence can become bias when one word is changed.

Thank you for reading this post! Be sure to leave a comment. Bye!

3,779,400

Hola amigos! For a fun school assignment we had to go to http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2011/11/where-in-the-world-part-2-a-google-earth-puzzle/100197/    This is a website where you are given a picture and three Location optoins. We went through and picked one. The one that I chose was Southern Alberta, Canada. Why I chose this is because I think the circles in the field look cool. Also because I wanted to learn more about why they are there.

Facts About Alberta:

-The population of Alberta is 3,779,400.

-The population of Alberta is over 661,000 square kilometres.

-In 2010, Alberta exported about 1.4 million barrels of oil to the United States.
